I didn't quite get around to sharing my thoughts on That's My Boy but there is still time to catch it at the cinema, so here is my review for TNT Downunder.
I have generally enjoyed Sandler's recent work (I am omitting Jack and Jill from that statement), so I was a little bit disappointed in this one.
That's My Boy is the story of Donny, a teenage kid who had an affair with his hot teacher, fathered a child and got stuck holding the baby when Mum was sent to prison. After being estranged from his son (played by Andy Samberg) for years, dropkick Dad (Adam Sandler) reappears on the scene looking for a handout.
It seems that Sandler is at his best when playing the loveable-straight-guy opposite Drew Barrymore (think 50 First Dates and The Wedding Singer). That is a very specific niché to adhere to unfortunately, so I can understand he may have got a bit confused trying to break away from that.
The story itself is pretty ridiculous in places and that can go either way, some may think it hilarious, some may hate it - I was split down the middle until the final I-can't-believe-they-really-went-there twist.
See it and let me know what you think.
